SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, that is is intended to validate if an e-mail message is sent by a certified server. Employing SPF protection for a particular domain name will prevent the faking of email addresses created with the domain. In simple words: enabling this function for a domain makes a particular record in the Domain Name System (DNS) containing the IP addresses of the servers which are allowed to send e-mails from mailboxes using the domain. Once this record propagates globally, it will exist on all the DNS servers that route the Internet traffic. Every time an email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through tests if it comes from an official server. In the event it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, yet if it does not originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it is discarded. Thus nobody can mask an email address and make it appear as if you're sending spam messages. This approach is also called email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Web Hosting

If you host your domains in a shared web hosting account with us and we manage the e-mails for them, you will be able to activate SPF protection for all of them with a couple of clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service is available in its own section where you will be able to see which domains are currently protected. For those that aren't, you'll be able to activate the SPF protection service and manage various things at the same time - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your addresses, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the servers, as well as to set a rule that email messages can be sent only if your domains use our MX records. The last mentioned option is the most secure one, and it can be used in the event that we manage the e-mail addresses for your domain names and you're not using a different email service provider. The new records will be activated within 24 hours and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in a message using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia website hosting Control Panel, that comes as standard with all our Linux semi-dedicated packages, will provide you with an exceptionally easy-to-use interface to enable the SPF security service for any domain name that you host in your new account. Just a few clicks in the Emails section of Hepsia will be enough for that then you'll only have to type in the hostname and the IP address of the mail server which will be allowed to send messages from your email addresses. When the email messages are taken care of on our end and not by another supplier, you're able to raise the protection level even further and take advantage of an option for your outgoing emails to be sent only if your domain names use our MX records. This option gives you better control and it will eliminate any chance of anybody counterfeiting your email addresses with the intention of spamming and / or scamming people. It's not applicable if only your site is hosted on our cutting-edge cloud web hosting platform, while your emails are handled by a different provider. If you aren't sure what options to select, our tech support team will assist you 24/7.
